Arsenal have sealed their third summer signing after England player Ben White was unveiled on Friday. The 23-year-old utility defender has secured a big money move to Arsenal from Brighton and Hove Albion.
Arsenal announced that England player White has penned a long-term deal believed to be a five-year deal with the option of an extra year. He has been given the number 4 shirt at Arsenal.
Brighton were adamant that Arsenal will have to meet their valuation for White before a transfer can take place. The Seagulls turned down several bids from the North Londoners before a £50m bid was accepted. £40m and £47m bids were rejected by Brighton before the Gunners were successful with their third and final bid of £50m. Brighton also inserted a sell-on clause into the transfer.
New Arsenal player White started his professional career at Brighton before he was sent on a couple of loans. The big teams started to notice his quality while he was on loan at Leeds United during the 2019/20 season.
White featured in all the 46 games as he helped Leeds United to secure a return to the Premier League after almost two decades. Leeds United bagged a place in the top flight by winning the English Championship title. Leeds United were keen to make his loan move permanent but they had a bid rejected for the player. England player White returned to Brighton last summer and he went on to play 36 games in the Premier League.
